I am a meme sheep following sfmarty 's lead.
If you're maybe noticing that you're older than you used to be, and are feeling sad/angry/confused/worried/frustrated that you haven't accomplished as much as you/other people in your present or past/annoyingly critical voices inside your head think you should have, and if you're maybe feeling something like "I'm not a real grownup like everyone else," and if you're maybe also feeling sad/angry/confused/worried/frustrated that your body isn't working the way it used to, and you're maybe thinking, "if that's true then how am I going to DO all those accomplishments that I/other people/voices in my head think I ought or want to do?", and maybe you're also wondering how are you going to dig out from under the accumulation of habit and procrastination and self-doubt to some sense of satisfaction in your life again, then post this same sentence in your journal.
Don't stop too sharp, Mart.

Now THIS is more fucking like it.
Your Score: Exclamation point You scored 61% Sociability and 58% Sophistication! Yes, you are fine around others. Fine. But you wish you could have just a *little* more alone time. Okay, well, a lot more alone time. In fact, you'd be happier if you didn't have to go out nearly as much. You get along very well with the period, who tries mightily to take up as much of the load as he can. But fools will not listen. You want to scream, "Cut it out, for the love of Safire!"
But, all of that notwithstanding, you do your duty. And, if sometimes you feel like a Chicago street hooker, you also remember that you really do have an important role to play. Your soul remains pure. Hold your head high!

First of all, Acoustic Long Island is a live performance podcast issued every Wed.
I've listened to only one session so far, the June 6 session, Hero for Another Day, but it was really enjoyable, and I think some folks on my friends list might enjoy it as well.
Curt Siffert is a jazz pianist from Colorado who does a podcast of piano improvisations, Curt Siffert's Piano Musings . By definition, it's more uneven, but I love this kind of musical exploration.
I found both of this by browsing the Arts podcasts in Itunes. Worth a spin to see what you can discover there.
Be sure to share.

| What color is your soul painted? Brown Your soul is painted the color brown, which embodies the characteristics of calmness, depth, nature, stability, tradition, poverty, roughness, down-to-earth, uncertainty, and neutrality. Brown is the color of the element Earth, and represents soil and, to a lesser degree, fertility of the Earth.

Just mostly not on Livejournal much, though looking through my friends entries, I'm thinking perhaps that should change.
If I come back for long, I'll probably go ahead and trim my friends list. Life has marched on for all of us.
So, this is me waving at ma peeps, and if you still remember me and want to stay on the friendslist, consider yourself invited to drop a comment.

GWW Drabble 2:
“Not this time, you belching fornicating mound of useless putrescent flesh.” She fairly spat her defiance at him with all the venomous vigor twenty years of matrimonial captivity had soaked into her-flesh, blood, and bone.
Her bags were packed and already stowed in young Yancy’s fancy sports car ready to make their escape with the life insurance paperwork safely ensconced in the zippered compartment up front. There was only one bulbous bellied thing between her delicate flower scented self and freedom, and Yancy would be coming out of the closet anytime now to take care of that.
Anytime now.

The One He Didn't See Coming
It was quiet tonight. Too quiet.
He’d been at the front too long.. His piercing blue eyes penetrated the new mooned night. Little movement from his vantage point even when his weathered face scrunched his crow’s feet into deep, ravaged furrows.
Too damn quiet. Hadn’t been a night without gunfire and mangled screams since the truce was broken. Not that it mattered much. He had nothing to go back to.
He pulled her last letter out of his shirt pocket, streaked and torn.
He had just unfolded it one last time when the bullet-the one you never hear-entered his brainpan.

Miss Rio (Hosted on Snapfish, which is free but requires a login.)
I got the call about an hour ago. "Rio passed on." It's a short sentence, but it carries a lot of weight.
There are all sorts of little stories that could be told. How she hated it when I was on the road all the time. When I finally got back, she would sleep with her body full length against my arm so she'd know if I made any move during the night. Her ferocity towards a cat she could see through the glass, couple with her extreme timidity when confronted face to face. The way she watched every visitor so very carefully to see if they were an acceptable addition to our tribe. When my parents came to visit, she found them so suspicious looking that she stood guard by my door all night. All 8 pounds of her.
She hadn't been noticeably failing, but she was almost 16. I knew that she would not be with me many more years. Nonetheless, you can never really be prepared, either.
I found my sweet kitty unmoving about 8:30 last night. I thought she might be dead, but she responded slightly to my voice. So I packed her up and took her to the emergency clinic. Chanting all the way.
She was having seizures and they determined she may have had a stroke. The vet couldn't determine what was wrong. Tests would need to be run. Her blood pressure was twice what it should be, so it was possible she had had a stroke.
Given her age and uncertain prognosis, I gave them a DNR order. The doctor was going to call me after he had the blood work done. I was able to go see her before I left. Though she was unconscious, I petted her, and chanted "nam myoho renge kyo" in her ear.
Then I came home and chanted for the best outcome.
An hour or so later, the phone rang.
Good night, my beloved kitty. I miss you already, but I know you will be reborn with much fortune, and will be greatly loved then as well.

One of my favorite of too many brilliant paragraphs:
He makes me think of old-fashioned words like "rake" or "libertine." He's pretty, like Pan-meets-street-person, with green eyes and a curving smile that really do rock my socks. But he has a few too many stories for his age, so I am wary. I am still trying to get over someone who can't wait to tell me about his new someone. It's been five weeks since he left, claiming his heart was broken because I couldn't come with him, and he has somebody else already. That was quick.
Now, that's a writer.

The death toll is climbing higher, some sources saying more than 50k dead.
And, that's not counting the people who are likely to succumb to the diseases that arise from bodies decaying before they can be buried, and the likely malnutrition if the difficulty of getting food and clean water to the survivors isn't overcome promptly.
My bills will still be there in a month. Some of these people won't be, without massive help from the rest of the world.
So, I'm taking some post Christmas cash and sending it to www.unicef.org and www.doctorswithoutborders.org. It makes my heart break a little bit less to do something, though I haven't completely stopped crying after reading some of the news stories yet.
Both of these organizations have proven their dedication and financial responsibility in the past. If you can send a little scratch their way, I think it will be put to good use.
If you have another organization to suggest, please feel free to add it in the comments.

Well, I'm officially a fucking impressive hostess.
My Christmas Eve dinner was a big hit. Even with 3 additional guests, (added an hour before dinner was to start)and a roast that I was afraid had stayed too long in the oven waiting for tardy guests to arrive.
From the spinach salad to the mashed potatoes to the melty in your mouth roast beef, I RULE!!!
I just thank festivus I bought an Italian Cream Cake instead of trying to make dessert, because I used every single dish and piece of silverware in my kitchen.
I've committed unnatural acts with garlic mashed potatoes on my kitchen counter, and I clearly must finish the wine before it goes bad, but my first dinner party in my new house has ended well.
I wouldn't have predicted it 4 hours ago.
Now, where's that wine?

Very pretty. I've been working long hours, and it's chilly in my house. I think it's going to freeze tonight, so I need to cover the plants and drip the faucets.
But, I don't want to do any of that. I want to indulge in RotKEE dvdage.
So, this may be my last post for a few days. Hee.

To let y'all know I'm fine. Just have been busy in 3d life, and not keeping up with my usual cyber haunts.
Thanks for the call, Joshy, and to all who mentioned they missed me. I didn't even realize how long it had been since I poked my head in around here. Got some catching up to do.
It's raining like a sonofagun here, with tornado warnings and floods in adjoining counties. So far, I'm snug and safe in my new house, and I don't expect that will change.
Will post more soon, if I'm not rowing for my life. Love to all.

While this is not personal bad news, I still feel kicked in the gut at this story and its implications.
I'd like not to believe it. Very much so. But in a war that has brought us Abu Ghraib, and a burgeoning insurgency fueled by the arrogance of our leaders, I can't dismiss it out of hand.
The blog entry has a link to Seymour Hersh's interview in which the transcribed text was delivered. The whole interview is very worth listening to if you're interested in cleaning up our rusty free press in America.
As for his credentials, Hersh is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist who not only broke the story about the atrocities at Abu Ghraib, but who has been writing about the abuses and uses of power since he broke the story of My Lai Massacre over 30 years ago.
This story is incendiary. It may prove to be untrue. We must pursue it, however, rather than assume it is untrue. If it is true, the consequences of again turning a blind eye to sins being performed in the name of democracy and America will be hard to bear.
I feel physically ill as I finish this journal entry.
